ABS Trade Event July 2014

ABS held our first Trade Information Evening yesterday for our local residential builders; giving them the opportunity to see how ABS works first hand, with a tour of our factory and showroom conducted by our managing partner Les Cowley and our production manager Vaughan Wayne. Les then demonstrated some of our stringent product testing, which ensures continued high quality of products and compliance with BCA codes.

2014 WA Architecture Awards

This year's WA Architecture Awards showcased some very impressive designs from our WA architects and designers. The 2014 entries will also be on display in the lobby of Brookfield Place, 125 St Georges Terrace; until this  Friday 11th July between 9am and 5pm.

Chinese Glass Defects

Defects in Chinese glass will cost developer millions!

Melbourne property giant, Grocon, are having to replace half of the glass in their $180 million Westpac headquarters after imperfections became visible in the heat-tempered glass last week, according to The Australian Financial Review (www.afr.com). The glass was imported through China Southern Glass, China’s largest manufacturer of building glass.

Up to 12,000 decks across Australia at Risk of Collapse

Up to 12,000 decks across Australia are at risk of collapse, according to a recent estimate from Archicentre, a subsidiary of the Australian Institute of Architects (www.abcnews.com.au ). This report follows the death of a baby boy this March in Niagara Park, NSW, when a sheet iron balustrade gave way, causing the mother and baby to fall 6 metres onto the concrete below. In 2010, a seven-week-old baby girl died in Queensland, when a father’s foot went through a rotten veranda causing him to lose hold of her. More recently, five people were injured in Lancelin on the bank holiday weekend, when a balcony collapsed and they fell 3 meters to the ground.
