ABS Celebrate 20 Years in Balustrading

Celebrating 20 Years

This year marks the 20th anniversary of Absolute Balustrades. After successfully completing his sheet metal apprenticeship and spending the next 20 years developing his skills and knowledge in the balustrade industry, Les Cowley established ABS in July 1995. His commitment to quality craftsmanship and compliance with Australian Standards enabled Absolute Balustrades to become leaders in the balustrade market, achieving the “Telstra & WA Small Business Development Award” for “Business with Fewer Than 50 Employees” in the North West Metro region in 1998 & 1999. ABS quickly grew to offer a wide range of aluminium, glass and stainless steel products.

John Timms joined ABS in 2002, contributing 38 years' experience in the Manufacturing, Chemical, Mining, Mineral Processing, and Construction industries. In 2008, continued success and growth meant that ABS had outgrown their premises in Paramount drive, and therefore, moved to a purpose built factory at Inspiration Drive.

StairJohn and Les have seen significant changes to the balustrade market and to Perth since ABS opened its doors in 1995. The balustrade market has become flooded with imports from Asia, which don’t always meet Australian Standards. Despite this tough competition, Absolute Balustrades have defied taking production of their balustrade to Asia and, instead, have held our own in the Perth balustrade market. “Importing glass from Asia would have cut costs, but it would have meant compromising on the high standard of quality that ABS are renowned in the industry for” explains managing partner, Les Cowley, “Our regular clients are willing to pay that little bit extra for a superior product, excellent customer service and lead times, from a trusted supplier”.

The construction industry has experienced a slowdown over the last couple of years, which has made this focus on high quality and service crucial to ABS remaining competitive and winning contracts in a more price sensitive market. ABS follow three core principles; Quality craftsmanship, Innovative design and Impeccable customer service. It is these core principles that have gained us our reputation among some of Perth’s top builders. Some of our regular clients include BGC, Pindan, Peter Stannard Homes, Alcock Brown-Neaves Group and Beaumonde Homes.

The Wexford Apartments“The continued growth and success of ABS is largely due to the team's extensive experience, reliability, and commitment to customer service and quality products”, stated Managing Partner, John Timms,  “most of our employees have been here over 10 years and are experts in their field”. Leonie, who retired last year, was with us for 18 years. Our factory manager, Vaughan, has worked for ABS for over 10 years. Our sales consultant Joanne has been with ABS over 16 years.

Absolute Balustrades are 20 years open this July. Keep an eye on our Facebook page for updates on anniversary events. For further information on ABS products contact our sales team or visit our Products page.
